Obituary

Saylor, John Malcolm
Passed away peacefully on the Oncology Unit at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the age of 77 years. Predeceased by his beloved wife Betty (April 1, 2020). Lovingly missed by his sons Michael, Sean (Cathy), Jeff (Sarah) and Chris (Kelly). Cherished grandfather of Malcolm, Kage, Hailey, Emerson, Katarina and Felicia. Dear brother of Gail (Barry) and Karen (Nick).

John worked as a teacher and principal for the Niagara South Board of Education from 1966 to 1998.
John was a long time valued member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Fonthill. He loved golfing with his buddies once a week and was a regular attendee at the Friday cruise nights at the Seaway Mall.
Above all, family was most important to dad.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the St. Catharines Hospital Oncology Unit for their care and compassion.

The graveside memorial service to honour Both John and Betty will take place at Fonthill Cemetery on Tuesday, August 25th at 11:00 am. We ask that all adhere to the social distancing guidelines and are encouraged to wear a mask. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Building Capital Fund or the Niagara Health Foundation Oncology Unit.

Doris and I send our condolences to all the family. A sad year indeed.
As first cousins, we saw each other on a fairly regular basis when we were young but as often happens, once out on our own with our own families we went our separate ways. The few times that we did get together as adults, John's pride in his family, his career and, of course his Fairlane, always came through loud and clear.
We are sorry we could not attend the graveside memorial to pass this message along personally.

My condolences to John and Betty’s four sons and two sisters for the loss of their mother and father in such a short period of time. As kids growing up, especially in high school we shared many things with our “ring of friends”....... playing cards, playing hockey on Johns fathers pond, cruising the streets in Fonthill,Welland and St.Catharines...I.e. A & W. , roller skating etc. Etc, . Mostly though I remember setting up a blind date for John with a student nurse (Betty) at St. Joseph’s hospital in
Toronto. That date led to many more and John and I shared rides back and forth to Toronto many times. There are so many good memories from that beginning I will never forget. After meeting Betty , John was smitten, and a new life for him began. I was happy and proud to be part of that. You will be missed my friends!

As a member of the social group called the Romeos, and on behalf of all our members, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Saylor Family. John enjoyed our membership and comaroderie every month. He loved to discuss his hobby and interests in cars. Our members will surely miss John's warm personality. May God bless the Saylor Family at this difficult time. John will be remembered in our prayers and at every social gathering of the Romeos. Peace be You!
