Helstab, Julia (nee Neuner)
The kindest, most loving person, completely devoted to her family, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her adoring family at the Welland Hospital on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the age of 90 years. Beloved wife and soul mate of 68 years to Edmond. Dear and loving mother of Susan, Edmond (Colleen), Judy George (David) and Nancy (Jean). Cherished Nagymama of Genevieve, Joseph, Lauren, Justine and Morgan, Tricia, Kimmy and Shelly. Predeceased by mother Julianna Neuner, father Frank Neuner and sister Clara Hokhold. Our hearts are broken but our guardian angel will always be with us.
Julia was born in Szekszard, Hungary and came to Canada as a refugee with her parents and sister in 1950. She met Edmond, the love of her life, also a refugee from Hungary in Delhi, Ontario in the same year. They were married on January 5, 1952 and raised their loving family together. Not only a life partner to Edmond, Julia was also his business partner in East Main Motors, the Volkswagen dealership and Bowl-O-Rama Lanes in Welland. She was an extraordinary baker, enjoyed classical music, opera and ballet, family time at the cottage and travel, but most of all, she loved cooking for and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill on Sunday, January 5th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with Vigil Prayers being said at 7:30pm. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Alexander’s Catholic Church, 50 Pelham Town Square, Fonthill on Monday, January 6th beginning at 10:30am. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 50 Woodlawn Road, Welland. Reception to follow at the Hungarian Hall on 361 Hellems Avenue, Welland.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Saint Anthony of Padua Mission Aid, Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) Canada or Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation.
