Irving, Laureen Louisa (nee Martin)
It is with unspeakable sadness that we announce the passing of Laureen at the St. Catharines Hospital on Sunday January 31, 2021.
Laureen passed away with the love of her family by her side at the age of 75 years. We held your hand and stroked your forehead and hoped that each breath wouldn't be your last.
Dear loving wife and best friend of Matthew for 56 years. He was your protector and when he asked the doctor if he could trade places with you, he showed the depth of his love for you.
You leave behind your biggest fan, your daughter Pauline (Irving-Wynia) and husband Dana. For so many reasons, you were my hero and without knowing, you shaped me to be who I am. I am forever grateful.
Cherished grandmother to "your boys", Nigel (and Saraya) and Ben. Your love for them was unparalleled and we know that you will look down and protect them in their journeys.
Laureen will be forever missed by her family in Scotland. She made a trip back to Scotland in November 2019 and had the trip of a lifetime. She connected with dear family members and made new friendships that left such an impression. To family members, Pauline, Brian, Ian and Elizabeth - you opened your homes and your hearts and for that we are so grateful.
Mum, you were a force to be reckoned with - you were smart, well informed, fiercely loyal and generous beyond words. You have left an unimaginable void and we will miss you dearly.
I would also like to thank my circle of support - you know who you are, and you have left an imprint on my heart that I will be eternally grateful for. I can say nothing more than thank you.
In keeping with my mum's spirit, a donation to a charity of YOUR choice would be lovely. She loved animals (as we all know) but there were also things that came as a surprise like donating to the Salvation Army at Christmas as she felt they were underfunded. But at the end of the day, any donation that you hold near and dear would be appreciated.
In keeping with Laureen's wishes cremation has taken place. The family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date.
