Obituary for Stephen Joseph Bak

Bak, Stephen Joseph August 17, 1930 - February 19, 2021

It is in sadness, but with extreme gratitude for his life, that the family announces the peaceful passing of Stephen Joseph Bak at the Welland Hospital at the age of 90. A treasured husband for over 58 years to Agnes (nee Gadsby). Cherished father to David (Marcie), Stephanie (Robin) and Adrian. A gentle and kind grandpa to Erica, Nadia, Katrina, Ava, Helene, Stefan, Connor and Amelie. Steve will be sadly missed by his sister Rose and his brother Andy. Predeceased by his brothers John, Paul, Michael and sister Mary.

Born in Czechoslovakia, but proudly Canadian, he was a great peacemaker. Steve was a devoted son to his parents Mary and Michael, a guiding light to his brothers and sisters, a devoted husband, a proud and gracious grandpa and uncle to many, as well as a passionate participant in the local bridge club. Steve's most enduring and consistent character traits were his humility and his faith in our Lord.

As a cancer survivor, his life of perseverance and gentle vigilance is surely most aptly epitomized in the recent Lenten recommendations of Pope Francis; "Let us renew our faith, draw from the living water of hope, and receive with open hearts the love of God, who makes us brothers and sisters in Christ". As we mourn the loss of Steve, please keep this prayer in mind.
