Obituary for Suzanne Elizabeth Christenson (Fugere)

Christenson, Suzanne Elizabeth (nee Fugere)

After a long battle with heart disease, beloved mother and wife Suzanne, age 69, passed away peacefully at Woodlands of Sunset Nursing Home on Monday, June 29, 2020.

She was preceded in death by her parents LeRoy and Elizabeth (nee Crane) Fugere, as well as her brother Michael Fugere.

Suzanne is survived by her husband of 46 years, Noel (Chris) Christenson; her son John (Vanessa) Christenson; daughter Cheryl (Tim) Hubler; sister Virginia Henneman; grandchildren Jack Christenson, Sam Christenson, and Jesse Hubler; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Suzanne was born November 17, 1950 in Moorehead Minnesota. After graduating from high school, she attended Moorhead Technical College, receiving a degree in Administrative Assistance. After years working at various companies in the United States, Suzanne moved to Canada in 1977 with her husband Chris. They travelled to Ontario by truck along with 3 German Shorthairs and a Pudelpointer. Suzanne worked in Accounts Receivable at General Signal in Welland and then worked as Receptionist, Secretary and Bookkeeper for the WildWings Club in Fenwick; all while raising a family.

Suzanne will forever be remembered by friends and family as a tender hearted soul that often spent more time caring and worrying for others than she did herself. She spent much of her life engaging in volunteering within her church and the school system. Sense of community and family were very important to Suzanne, whether it was making sure she never missed sending a card for a birthday/anniversary (and on time!), getting annual family photos taken at Sears, or helping to organize a family reunion with all of her cousins and extended family in the United States.

To her husband, her most attractive feature will always be her independent spirit. To her friends she was a kind confidant that loved to laugh and talk for hours. She devoted herself to providing her children the best childhood she could give them and instilling values of fairness, kindness and responsibility. She loved music, visiting new places, and dreamed of having a place by the water for the grandkids like her parents had. Suzanne was loved and will be missed.

In keeping with Suzanne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 834 Canboro Rd. Fenwick on Friday August 28,2020 at 1:00pm, followed by a reception at Pelham Funeral Home (Formerly Pedlar Funeral Home), 1292 Pelham St Fonthill, between 2:30 and 4:30 to remember Suzanne and share memories. Masks are required for all attendees.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woodlands of Sunset Nursing Home, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation
